Product Description

The lace frame is a Montessori practical life exercise in which a child learns the activity of tying or untying laces. The lace frame consists of two pieces of cloth mounted on a wooden frame with nylon laces that are attached to both of them. The cloth used is cotton and wooden frame is varnished to make the frame termite proof, edges are smoothly polished and designed to be durable and child rough use.

Purpose
  • To help them learn how to tie and untie laces.
  • To acquire coordination of movement.
  • To develop better hand-to-eye co-ordination.
Exercise
  • Demonstrate the exercise by first bringing the frame and laying it on the mat
  • Begin the exercise by untying the bow at the bottom of the lace
  • Unhook the left lace and place it at the right side, and unhook right side and place it on the left side.
  • Similarly, repeat the activity of untying of the rest of the bows and place.
  • Open the right flap and left lap and close them while instructing the children about untying of laces.
  • Proceed to the activity of tying by first picking up the top lace by pinching it using your thumb and index finger.
  • Put one lace in the first hole on one side and the other lace in the opposite side of the row.
  • Make sure that two ends are evenly put through the holes and match them by holding together.
  • Make sure the ends are put together at even length.
  • Cross both the laces by placing one lace over another.
  • Tie both the ends by rotating and making a bow out of both ends.
  • Repeat the activity with the rest of the laces.
  • Invite and encourage the child to participate in tying the laces together and carefully instruct them about the procedure.
  • Encourage the child to perform this activity once in front of you and assist the child while making a mistake.
  • Let the child perform this activity individually and independently so that the learning process takes place naturally.
  • Monitor the movement and activity and assist only when necessary.
