Product Description

The sandpaper numerals with box exercise in Montessori mathematics consists of a box set that has ten sandpaper numerals from 0 to 9. The sandpaper numerals exercise introduces the child to symbols 0 to 9 and their corresponding number names. The child using his/ her index finger traces on the numerals in the styles and directions they are written in. Along with self preparation for writing numbers. The ten rough sandpaper numerals are mounted on smooth green card boards.

The Sandpaper Numerals introduce the child to symbol 0-9 and their corresponding number names. By tracing the numerals in the style and direction in which they are written, the child is preparing for writing numbers. The 10 rough sandpaper numerals are mounted on smooth green boards

Ten sandpaper numbers 0-9 mounted on green board and presented in a wooden box. The purpose of this material is to teach the child the written symbol for numbers 1 - 10

Purpose

To help the child develop muscular memory and get concrete perception of abstract symbols.
To help the child develop and improve tactile sense.
To help the child learn the names of the written symbols and gradation.
To develop the child's observational skills.
To help the child prepare for the preschool to learn to write numbers.
To trace the number correctly with the finger tip and name the number out loud correctly.

Exercise

Demonstrate the exercise by bringing the whole box set and placing it on the mat.
Invite the children to gather around you and sit to watch the way this exercise is done while you demonstrate.
Tell the children to bring over all the materials that come in the box set.
Begin the exercise by sensitizing your fingers and inform the children to do the same.
After sensitization of the fingers, tell the children to damp their fingers very well before working on this exercise as to avoid peeling of sandpaper from the wooden card.
Using your thumb and index finger, pick the first sandpaper with the number 1 and place it in front of you.
With your index finger, start tracing on the number and repeat tracing it thrice and say, “One”.
Tell the children to repeat it similarly and sound out the name.
Proceed to the number 2 and 3 and similarly do the activity and tell the children to repeat it.
After finishing the number 3, do the Three Period Lesson with number 1, 2 and 3.
As soon as the first Three Period Lesson is complete, continue to the numbers 4, 5 and 6.
Similarly, do the activity for the next three numbers, that is 7, 8 and 9.
